Southampton Boat Show To Exhibit Ultra National 18

The Southampton Boat Show will be conducted from the 16th September to 25th September by the National 18 Class Association. The main attraction of the boat show will be the all new National 18 known as an Ultra. This boat is designed by Phil Morrison.

There has been a lot of changes and development that the National18 class has undergone over the past two years. The boat was in the wilderment for two years and now is ready to test the race waters. Two full seasons of testing and developments reveal that the boat is ready to meet the requirements and the expectations of the Class members.

After the Phil Morison’s hull was adopted in July 2014, 16 new boats have been built and two more are under production – with some first setting sail for as a Yacht Charter in Croatia for some lucky few. The boat carries a new sail plan with a new laminate square top mainsail and 21 sq m spinnaker with two spinnaker poles. These new boats for the National 18 class are called the Ultra.

As many as 15 ultra participated in the National Championship race of 2016 at Findhorn close to Inverness. The race was a spectacle to the eye and there were some incredibly very close races held at Findhorn. There is no doubt that new Ultra will plunge into the racing scene with a bang.

‘The Shadow’ Ultra boat will be on show at stall A106 in the Arena and this boat belongs to the Blackwater Sailing Club. There will be two new National 18s boats taking part in the Battle of the Classes to be held on 25th September. Morrison’s National 18 is considered to be a proper boat that people of all ages and experience can easily handle. The National 18 has a majestic presence both on and off the water and offers top end racing performance.
